Watley looked good through the first half of the race, but at mile 13 he started to notice some pain in his calf. “I tweaked my calf in the last couple miles of the Des Moines Half Marathon, and I guess it just hadn’t healed up enough since then,”said Watley,” It’s disappointing to put in several months of training and to have to drop out, but sometimes in running you have to roll with the punches.” Watley pushed through the pain for the next 9 miles, but was forced to drop out at mile 22.
