Winter Update
LRC Racing has been very active in the winter races this year. Despite all of these races, there are just a few performances that stand out.
1) Brooks No Frills Racing Series – LRC master’s member, Craig Christians servers as race director for this series. As the title states, this race is just the bare necessities with “no frills”. Five mile races take place every two weeks, with a ten mile race taking place on the last date. So far this year, Jason Zakaras and Maureen Larsen have been the first finishers in each of the races so far. One of the more interesting things about this race is that all results are age-graded and points are awarded accordingly. Maureen currently leads the age-graded results for women by five points, and Jason Zakaras currently sits as second in the men’s race, one point behind the leader. Logan Watley sits in 9th place, and Darren Schlake can be found in 10th place, despite only running one of the three races so far. Information on the race series can be found here.
2) The 3rd Annual Empyrean Trail 5k Run took place on February 1st, 2014. LRC Racing represented well at Carol Joy Holling Camp, finishing 1-5 in the men’s race and 1,4 in the women’s race. LRC men who ran included Jason Zakaras, Brian Wandzilak, Tom Woods, Brian Kelley and Darin Schlake. LRC women included Maureen Larsen and Ann Bauermeister. In addition, LRC Alum Addie Hohman finished 3rd overall on the women’s side. Results for this race can be found here.
3) Although it has not yet taken place, LRC Racing will be sending a master’s team to Boulder, CO for the USA Cross Country championships on Saturday February 15th. The six individuals representing LRC Racing and the state of Nebraska will be Tom Woods, Darin Schlake, Jason Schmaderer, Ivan Ivanov, Brian Kelley and Craig Christians. Brian and Craig will be running in the 40+ team division despite being in the 50+ age group. Results can be found on the host’s website here.
