Weekend Race Update
Then on Sunday, a large contingent of LRC Racers took to the streets of Des Moines. In the 5k race, Ivan Ivanov placed second overall in a time of 15:53. His time betters the previous master’s record and places him tied for 5th on the Top 10 charts. In the full marathon, Chad Sellers ran a time of 2:38:13, which placed him 10th overall.
In the half marathon, Jason Zakaras (1:12:06) led the way for LRC despite having to stop and tie his shoe. His fourth place finish was just in front of 5th place, Andrew Jacob (1:12:17). Logan Watley also finished in the top 10 (10th) in a time of 1:12:55. There was not much shuffling in the men’s top 10 slots, as it mostly involved improving times of existing places. Maureen Larsen also ran great by finishing 10th overall in a time of 1:26:52. All four LRC half marathoners ran a PR on Sunday.
Then, at the Governor’s Cup in Lincoln Sunday afternoon, Derek Sekora dipped under 17 minutes in the 5k (16:58) to finish third overall. Craig Christians was the 6th overall finisher and first master’s runner in a time of 18:07. Erica Doering also ran well, finishing in 19:23 and was the first woman to cross the finish line. LRC also fielded a 1-4 sweep of the 15k as Johnny Rutford won the race in 50:25 (:10 off the team record). Next across the line was Jacob Kaemmer (53:03), who we failed to mention in last week’s M2M recap, and then Brian Wandzilak (56:03) and Tim Larsen (57:44). All the 15k times were good for spots on the top 10 lists, and Tim’s finish puts him as second on the master’s 15k list.
Congrats to everyone who raced this weekend!
