Spring Wrap-Up
LRC Racing’s spring season wrapped up on May 6th with the 35th annual Lincoln Half and Full Marathon. In the full marathon, the team was led by Tom Nichols who finished 4th out of 1,171 runners in a time of 2:31:50. Eric Noel was the 8th overall finisher in a time of 2:40:07 and Ryan Regnier rounded out the LRC’s marathoners with a time of 2:50:12 (20th overall, 5th in Age Group). Tom’s time broke the team’s previous marathon record held by Eric Noel in the 2011 Lincoln Marathon. Ryan also moved up to fourth on the team’s all-time charts in the event. In the half marathon, Neil Wolford ran an outstanding race, finishing 5th out of 6,775 runners in a time of 1:11:59. This was Neil’s first time breaking 1:12:00 and was also good enough to improve the team record in the half marathon (previously held by Neil in the 2011 Lincoln Half Marathon). Quinn Lewandowski also stepped up from the track to run a respectable half with a time of 1:16:20 (12th overall, 7th in age group). On the women’s side, Amber Brandenburger ran 1:27:03 to finish 6th place in the women’s race. Nora Youngs finished 15thoverall (2nd in her age group) with a time of 1:32:44. In addition to the mentioned runners, LRC Racing had several other men and women complete the half marathon race as well.
Less than a month later (June 2nd, 2012), LRC Racing sent their first team to the Hospital Hill Half Marathon Team Challenge in Kansas City, MO. Once again, Neil Wolford led the way for the guys, finishing 21st overall and setting a new team record with a time of 1:11:46. Eric Noel and Tom Nichols finished shortly behind in 24th (1:13:28) and 26th place (1:13:53). Logan Watley rounded out the team by running a time of 1:15:35, good enough for 32nd place. All four runners added their times to the team’s top charts in the event. In the team event, the top three times were added together, and LRC Racing came out in 4th place out of 7 teams. LRC Racing came in 3:48 behind the 3rd place team (Albany Running Exchange), but 3:15 before the 5th place team.
The Havelock Charity Run will take place tomorrow (June 9th), and this will be the first year that LRC Racing runs an official, men’s 10k team. Several other LRC runners will show up on Nebraska Wesleyan Alumni teams in both the 3k and 10k. Also, check out Neil Wolford’s running blog at http://racinglincoln.blogspot.com/.
Finally, LRC Racing has added many new members to the team over the past month. We are more than happy to welcome Tom Woods, IV, Frances (Frankie) Petersen, Mike Rathje, Hannah Kinberg, Malaina Huebert and Erica Hamik to our team. Tom is a master’s athlete who is focusing on triathalons, but is still able to throw down a pretty quick road 10k. Frankie Petersen teaches in Lincoln and finished in the 1:26’s at the Lincoln Half Marathon. Mike Rathje, Hannah Kinberg and Malaina Huebert are all Nebraska Wesleyan Alumni who are coming off very successful cross country and track careers under Dr. Ted Bulling, and Erica Hamik joins us from a UNL career, in which she ran a 2:08 800m. Congratulations to you all, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the top of race results!
