LRC Racing Rewrites the History Books

Picture

LRC Racing took advantage of a flat course and perfect weather conditions to rewrite the history books this morning at the Lincoln Track Club’s Thunder Run 5k this morning.  With temperatures in the mid to upper 60’s at the gun, LRC ran the top four times (and five of the top six) in team history.  In addition, both women added their names to the Top 10 history book.

Frankie Petersen broke the tape (18:37) with inaugural member Maureen Larsen not far behind in third place overall (19:06). Maureen also was the first overall finisher in her age group.

The men’s race was just as competitive as billed with five at/under 16:01 and seven under 16:30.  Neil Wolford led the way as he won the 5k race in a time of 15:27.  Eric Noel was not far behind in third place (15:36), while Logan Watley (15:52) and Jason Zakaras (16:01) rounded out the top 5.  Andrew Jacob finished 6th (16:18) and Dan Haden 9th (16:55) to round out the top 10.  Derek Sekora 11th (17:13) and Austin McKillip 18th (18:34) also finished strong for LRC.  Haden & Zakaras won their age group, as McKillip finished 3rd in his.  Noel, Watley & Jacob swept their age group as well.

Overall, it was a very successful day that resulted in seven top 10 times, two new team records, six age group awards and many lifetime and road PR’s (Derek, Jason and Eric all ran 5k PR’s; not just road 5k PR’s).

In addition, the 2013 Thunder Run was designated as the Nebraska Assoc. 5k Championships.  Champion & Runner-up results are as follows:

Men:
1) Neil Wolford (15:27)
2) Colin Morrissey (15:28)
