Lincoln Marathon/Half Marathon

By Logan Watley (May 5, 2011)

I think it’s fair to say that LRC Racing had an OUTSTANDING day on Sunday, May 1, 2011.  All four runners in the full marathon and both runners in the half met LRC’s qualifying standard.  In the half marathon, Neil Wolford ran an incredible PR (1:12:47) that placed him 10th overall.  Also, Amber Brandenburger crossed the line at 1:26:00, which placed her either 6th or 8th, depending on which results you view.  Both Neil and Amber ran 4-5 minutes FASTER than their goal.

In the full marathon, it was 3 of the 4 runners debut at the marathon distance, and all four runners met the Boston Marathon qualifying time!  Although stuggling at 8:30/mile for the last 3 miles or so, Logan Watley finished his first marathon in 2:51:09, which was good enough for 23rd place.  Josh Mietz, the long distance “expert” of the team, ran his marathon in 2:56:52, which placed him 39th place. Also, Mike Herz “gutted it out” finishing in 70th place at 3:04:19.  However, the race of the day belonged to Eric Noel, who had been training for the Lincoln Marathon hard core since February.  Eric had an UNBELIEVABLE run, getting 3rd place overall while running a time of 2:32:21.

After talking to the entire team, I know that everybody was happy with their time and the race that they ran on Sunday. That’s not to say we wouldn’t do anything different if we ran it again, but I know that everybody had a good experience (for many, it was the first experience) running the Lincoln Full/Half Marathon.

Many members of the team are taking a little time off before entering the summer races. The Havelock Charity Run on June 4th will most likely be the summer debut for many of the runners.  Keep checking the “2011 Racing Schedule” and ”Recent News” to see where we will be and how we do!
