Havelock Charity Run

By Logan Watley (June 6, 2011)

Saturday was another good day for LRC Racing.  At the Havelock Charity Run in Lincoln, NE, five members were able to meet the minimum qualifying standard.  Although just a few weeks back into running, Quinn Lewandowski paced the team in the 3k by placing third overall with a time of 9:20.  In the 10k, Logan Watley “negative-split” the course and took 2nd overall with a 34:14.  Running with a small injury, Eric Noel PR’d the Havelock course by running over 20 seconds faster than last year (35:43), and Mike Herz also met the qualifier by running 36:29.  The final runner to meet the minimum standard was Amber Brandenburger, who ran to a 4th place finish in the women’s 10k with a time of 40:28.  Combined with NWU runners and alumni, the teams placed 1st in the open 3k, the men’s 10k, the women’s 10k and second in the mixed 10k.  In total, $300 was raised for various charities (People’s City Mission, Matt Talbot’s Kitchen, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Susan G. Komen).

In addition, new-member Drew Pope completed the Deadwood Trail Marathon in South Dakota with a time of 3:04:52.  Drew placed 6th overall on the certified Boston-qualifier course in his first-ever full marathon.

Lots of races still to run this summer!  Look out for information regarding the Lincoln Mile on July 10th, the Columbus Downtown Runaround on July 23rd and the Thunder Run on August 6th!
