Happy Birthday!

By Logan Watley (July 18, 2011)

On Sunday July 10th, the Lincoln Mile was contested in downtown Lincoln.  LRC Racing had a good showing for such a short race.  Logan Watley was the top finisher by getting third in the Men’s Elite Race with a 4:33.  Amber Brandenburger also ran to a 3rd place finish in the Women’s Elite race by running a 5:33.  In addition, Derek Sekora ran his fastest mile time in quite some time by crossing the line at the Men’s Elite Race in 4:54.  Finally, Austin McKillip had a great debut by running sub-5 (and winning) in the age group race.

We will be taking five runners to the Columbus Downtown Runaround on Saturday July 23rd.  Derek Sekora, Mike Herz and Logan Watley will be running the 5 mile, while Eric Noel will run the 2.1mile in his first race back from injury.  Amber Brandenburger will also be running the 5mi as she returns to her old stomping ground.  After Columbus, a large contingent will head south to Manhattan, KS to take on several other running teams in a team-scored 10k on August 6th.

Happy birthday to the Lincoln Running Company Racing team!  Ok, so the date may not be exact, but LRC Racing has been in existence for over one year now.  It appears that after turning one, the team is just scratching the surface of its potential.  LRC Racing has blossomed from a team of two runners to eight guys and one girl.  In addition, Proformance Physical Therapy has been a gracious sponsor for the team, and we look forward to working with them in the future.  More importantly, LRC Racing is more recognized on the streets of Lincoln than a year ago.  There have been a lot of great races ran by LRC Racing members, but I will just highlight a few below (in no particular order):

  1. 2-3-4-7-10 Finish at the Novartis Run 10k
  2. Eric Noel winning the 2.1mi and Logan Watley winning the 5mi at the 2010 Columbus DTRA in the team’s debut race
  3. Five Boston Marathon Qualifiers (four at the Lincoln Full Marathon)
  4. Eric’s 3rd overall finish at the Lincoln Full Marathon
  5. Neil Wolford’s 2nd half burst at the NWU Alumni Run as he ran to a 2nd place finish
  6. Logan and Quinn Lewandowski’s 1-2 punch at the Governor’s Cup 5k

Get used to seeing LRC Racing around, because we’re not going anywhere!
