Friday Night Lights
For the second time this fall, LRC Nebraska hosted a track event under the lights. With the latest version, however, we decided to introduce a "Step Off" component where runners could run a 5k and then decide mid-race whether to continue towards the 8k mark or "Step Off" with their 5k split. The idea was hatched by LRCN Board Member, Johnny Rutford, with the thought that runners going out a little too hard could step off at 5k. Runners going out conservative could set an 8k PR.
The event had 21 finishers in the inaugural event, with Mr. Rutford being the sole 8k participant (in a quick time of 24:22.4). Full results for the event can be found HERE.
While there appears to be a desire for regular events like this, the hope is that next time an event is hosted in the dark, the lights will be appropriately working. 🙂
