Fall 2016 Racing Update
There has been a lot going on for LRC Racing since we last checked in after the Thunder Run on August 13th. On September 2nd, a contingent of LRC Racing made the 3 hour drive to Sioux Falls to run the Augustana Twilight 4 mile race against almost 300 other runners. While non-collegiate teams were scored separately from everyone else, LRC Racing would have finished 11th in the college division and 14th overall (out of 25 teams). The team also had an average age of 27.2 years. Johnny Rutford led the way with a time of 20:07.2, while Ryan Dostal (20:16.85) and Cole Marolf (20:18.47) were not far behind. Andrew Jacob, the team’s elder statesman, finished just a hair over 5:15 pace (21:01.39), while Logan Watley finished out the scoring with a time of 21:48.59.
On the women’s side, Hayley Sutter was back in town, finishing first overall in a time of 30:00 even. Michelle Schmidt enjoyed her first race as a masters runner, finishing as the first masters and third overall with a time of 32:24. Amy McCracken was not far behind as the fourth overall finisher and second in her age group with a time 32:26. Becca Bevans was back out on the roads as she finished second in her age group and 6th overall (32:42).
Then on Saturday, September 17th, LRC Racing again spiked up to run the Woody Greeno/Dirksen cross country race. Again led by Nolan Border (33rd, 26:55.1), the team finished as the 13th college team and 18th overall team (out of 21 teams). The team made up of Nolan, Brian Wandzilak (125th, 29:22.5), Logan Watley (136th, 29:38.1), Ivan Marsh who doubled back from Harvest Moon Hustle (174th, 30:56.7) and the youthful Brian Kelley (185th, 31:49.8) had an average age of 38 years young. Despite having a significant age difference among the 219 other runners, LRC Racing enjoyed the spirit of competition.
Next up for the team will be Omaha Corporate Cup, Market to Market Relay and the Capital City Classic 5k/15k.
