December Update

As 2014 begins to wind down, LRC continued to look for avenues in which to compete.  The first opportunity for that was at the California International Marathon in Sacramento, CA. Four LRC individuals made it to the start line, but despite good starts by all, only Ryan Regnier (2:41:28) and Brian Wandzilak (2:44:49) finished the race.  Those two times place them 6th and 7th on the all-time charts, respectively.  In addition, LRC Alum Eric Noel ran an outstanding time of 2:22:39, which eclipsed his previous best by over two minutes! Eric now works as a professor at Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, CA.  Sadly, Eric’s time is not eligible for an LRC record given his alumni status.

On that same day, LRC represented at the Lincoln Track Club’s Holiday Run 5k at Pioneers Park.  LRC placed 1-4 in the men’s race, as Ivan Ivanov, Ryan Salem, Derek Sekora and Brian Kelley led the way.  As there’s no official results for the Capital Humane Society fundraiser, times were not immediately available.

Finally, LRC Racing took a step in a new direction as they sent a men’s team to the USATF Club Cross Country championships in Bethlehem, PA.  The race took place this past Sunday (December 14th), and 572 men competed in the open race (almost twice as big as your normal NCAA championship races).  Cole Marolf led the way through the 10k course (222nd, 32:34), followed by Trevor Vidlak (238th, 32:45), Neil Wolford (311th, 33:35), Andrew Jacob (368th, 34:09) and Michael Rathje (391st, 34:34).  Ryan Dostal also represented the team on the big stage (449th, 35:35).  Despite the very muddy conditions, LRC placed 45th out of 72 teams and made up 75% of the Nebraska representation.

With these races completed and the new year fast approaching, there are very few opportunities for LRC to race before this winter’s indoor track season.  With that being said, keep an eye out for the blue and yellow to be involved in as many track meets as allowed by race directors.
