Conclusion of Summer Racing
LRC Racing officially completed their summer racing schedule on August 4th with the Lincoln Thunder Run. Although many of the LRC runners have taken some “down time” that signifies the change from summer racing to fall training, the team was still able to have a great showing in this 5k race. With seven men and one woman completing the race, the men swept their race by going 1-2-3 and Addie Hohman, our lone woman, placed third in her race. Even with 20mph winds during the race, Addie ran a great time coming within 8 seconds of a minimum standard and continuing her improvement from a long stretch of non-competitive running/racing.
In the men’s race, the team was led by Logan Watley (16:01), Neil Wolford (16:07) and Eric Noel (16:20). Logan was unable to break 16:00 for the third time this past year in which each race was completed in exactly 16 minutes and 1 second. Neil ran a strong race considering he is just getting back into training mode after vacation and a time of regrouping. Other notable performances include Brian Wandzilak’s inaugural race (17:01) for LRC Racing as he joins our team with vast experience, both in coaching at Lincoln North Star and running previously for Team Nebraska. On a heavier note, after completing 40 of the 62 miles in the Black Hills 100k, Drew Pope came back and ran 17:43 at the Thunder Run to complete his LRC Racing career. Drew will be moving out to Wyoming as he will begin law classes at the university. Drew has been a great asset to our team, being listed in five events on the team’s Top 10 charts, including the third fastest marathon runner (2:49:36 at the Armed Forces Marathon in DC on 10/30/11). We wish Drew nothing but the best, knowing that he will be a great alumni for our team!
