Columbus Downtown RunAround
LRC took its largest contingent of runners to a road race on Saturday, July 23rd to Columbus for the annual Columbus Downtown Runaround. LRC had two runners in the 2.5 mile (more on that to come) and three runners in the 5 mile. Despite running a 6:32 fourth mile due to a side-stich, Logan Watley was the third overall runner to finish in 27:56.1, about 2 1/2 minutes slower than 2010. Mike Herz improved from last year by finishing 8th overall (29:21.0) and hitting the team’s minimum standard for the 5 mile. Amber Brandenburger was the fourth female across the line, finishing in a time of 32:23.5 which also beat the team’s minimum standard.
In the 2.1 mile race (which ended up being around 2.5 miles due to some wrong directions given by race volunteers), Eric Noel and Derek Sekora finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Their times were 12:53.5 and 12:56.9, but they are deceptively slow due to the nature of the “wrong turn”.
Overall, the five team members (and Paul Watley, the team administrator) had a great trip to Columbus and are excited about returning in 2012. The team took an even larger contingent of runners to Manhattan, KS for the Brew to Shoe 10k, which took place on August 6th. However, until results are posted, I will hold off on writing an update for that. Four LRC members will run the Thunder Run 5K on August 13th, while the rest continue to train for several fall races, including the NWU Alumni Run, Buffalo Run, Market to Market Relay, Chicago Marathon and Governor’s Cup!
