2015 Columbus #DTRA

This year was the 30th running of the Columbus Downtown Runaround in Columbus, NE. It also marks the five year anniversary for LRC Racing as a competitive team in the region.  Five years ago, LRC Racing had only six members but managed to sweep both the men’s 5 mile and 2 mile at the 2010 Downtown Runaround. LRC Racing has now exploded, a team made up of men, women, husbands, wives, masters, moms and dads numbering close to 40.

Since 2010, the appearance of LRC Racing at your local road races has done nothing but increased the level of competition, and this was evident again at this year’s Columbus Downtown Runaround.

Trevor Vidlak led the way by finishing 4th overall in a time of 26:10. Trevor’s time places him third on the Top 10 charts and was just two seconds out of third place.  Rounding out the top 15 was Ryan Dostal (4th OA, 26:44), Johnny Rutford (6th OA, 27:07), Logan Watley (7th OA, 27:10), Andrew Jacob (12th OA, 28:14) and Brian Wandzilak (15th OA, 28:58).  Chuck Smith finished just outside the top 15 (16th OA, 29:14), however, he was the first masters runner to cross the finish line. Chuck’s time is now third on the all-time charts for LRC Masters.  Kerry McDermott also ran the race, finishing in a time of 34:49 (2nd AG).

In addition to the men, Erica Doering placed herself 4th on the top 10 charts with a time of 31:11 as she finished 2nd overall in the women’s race.

Derek Sekora also represented LRC Racing well in the 2.1 mile by running 11:09 to finish second overall.

Next up for most of the LRC Racing squad will be the Thunder Run 5k on August 8th. It would not be a surprise to see someone (LRC or otherwise) make an attempt to take down the state’s certified 5k record of 15:20.
